Our Story

Although Grazing Acres was born in 2020, the dream began years earlier when the Gratrix family moved to rural Alberta. With eleven acres and zero experience “hobby farming”, Steve and Teresa dove into acreage life. Throughout the years, many animals came and went, but with all the new adventures you could be sure to find one kind of furry friend on the farm: cows.

Teresa’s love for cows only grew over the years, and she dreamed of owning “fluffy cows”. Flash forward to 2020. It was Teresa’s 50th birthday and she (along with Vanessa) convinced Steve it was time to get highland cows. So one day not one, but six highland cows, set hoofs on the acreage.

Sharing our highland hijinks with the world, especially during the days of Covid, was a fun outlet for Teresa & Vanessa. With hard work, and a lot of algorithm luck, we have grown our following to almost 20k fellow cow lovers.

Our hope is that our videos, products, and future events help bring you some highland cow joy, even if you can’t have one in your own backyard.
